An essential component of Romanian regalia is the scepter of King Ferdinand I. The Scepter was created in Alba-Iulia, Transylvania, in 1920 in preparation for the King's coronation. Six girls from the Romanian orphanage Radu Voga gave Ferdinand I the scepter.

Four peasants dressed in national costumes representing Transylvania, Ancient Romania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina are depicted at the top of the scepter. The eagle perched above the scepter represents Romania's Latin roots. King Ferdinand I is almost always seen carrying the scepter and/or some other item of Romanian insignia in portraiture.
