December 2018 saw the opening of the amazing invention's forerunner restaurant in Tokyo, Japan. The waiters at this pop-up café are robots. Restaurant employees who are quadriplegic and paraplegic control the waiters. Ten people and the robots that go with them work at the Dawn Ver café.

Despite the impression that this is the latest innovation from iRobot, the idea has been around for a while. The Naulo Café employs servers from restaurants in Nepal. Robotic waitstaff has also long been a feature of hotels and theme parks in Japan. It will be intriguing to observe the next uses of this technology.
