Rotating technology is highly favored in Japan. Train seats are no different, and if you're traveling in a group, you can turn your seat to face the window or other passengers (though it's probably not a good idea to face strangers at random on a bullet train like the Shinkansen).

A 180-degree rotating lever located beneath the seat is used to operate rotating train seats, at least on the Shinkansen, which is comparable to CSX in the United States. You can find similarly inventive seating elsewhere. The bleachers at the Hokkaido Island stadium, Sapphoro Dome, rotate as well.
